History of the grape variety:
The white Malvasia of Candia aromatica derives its name from the Greek town of Monemvasia, in the island of Candia, the present Crete. It is not known exactly when the vine arrived in the hills of Piacenza, but in the annals of agriculture of the Kingdom of Italy of Filippo Re, year 1813, Malvasia is mentioned among the local varieties. At the beginning of the years ’60 is already the white grape most cultivated in Piacenza, covering 40% of the hectares of white grapes present in the province. To learn more, click here.
