Passito Astrea - Colli Piacentini Denominazione di Origine Controllata Malvasia Passito

From the fruit of “Malvasia Bianca aromatica Candia”, already mentioned by Bramieri in 1818 and by Rovesenda in 1877, comes a high quality raisin”, obtained from grapes harvested late and then dried.
It is aged in French oak barriques“Tronchè” for about 12 months, keeping unchanged the varietal characteristics of the grape and enriching the bouquet of intense aromatic notes, complex and intriguing, evoking scents of wild flowers, yellow peach, hazelnut and honey.
Recognized meditation wine, also offers hints of extreme elegance in the kitchen, with creative pairings, such as“gorgonzola and honey” and more elaborate preparations of sweet flavor.

History of the grape variety : The white Malvasia of Candia aromatica derives its name from the Greek town of monemvasia, in the island of Candia, the present Crete. It is not known exactly when the vine arrived in the hills of Piacenza, but in the annals of agriculture of the Kingdom of Italy of Filippo Re, year 1813, Malvasia is mentioned among the local varieties. At the beginning of the years ’60 is already the white grape most cultivated in Piacenza, covering 40% of the hectares of white grapes present in the province. To find out more, click here.
